ā¦As Kogi generates N23.5billion Yearly from Tax
Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, Sule Enehe, has disclosed that 41 persons who engaged in illegal tax collectors in the state are facing prosecution.
Mr. Enehe stated this on Tuesday in Lokoja during a meeting of the agency with critical stakeholders in the taxation sectors.
He said the agency under is watch has been able to move monthly tax generation from N1.5billion to N23.5 Billion; and still hoping of surpassing the flow in the next quarter.
Enehe however lamented the activities of illegal tax collectors in the state, noting that most of them had the backing of prominent politicians making them engaging in what he called “Black” Tax acollections.
He however warned those illegal tax collector to steer clear of the state, stressing that under his watch the era of patronising politicians had become history.
He called on tax payer not to pay into individual account or made cash payment, stating that all payment must be made only to state recognized accounts.
āWe aim to flush out or reduce illegal tax collectors to the barest minimum. Already, about 41 persons who engaged in illegal tax collectors were arrested and facing prosecution.
āThis has been a big challenge. We have constituted a team headed by the director of Tax collection. Prominent people in the state are involved in encouraging these boys.
The KGIRS boss said payment of tax has become seamless, encouraging tax payers in the state to made themselves abreast of the new method,
āWe have moved tax payment from manuel to digital. At the comfort of everyone, tax payers can now stay in their houses and made payment and can print their receipts immediately.
āTaxation with us has been made voluntary, but we will only enforce the payment when tax payers are not forth coming in doing their constitutional responsibility.”
He however concluded that the stakeholders meeting is to get feed back from the payers and address any grey area that may have been disturbing their minds.
