Youth Day: Ododo unveils youth talents, skills data base in Kogi

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has charged youths to take the advantage of current innovation in technology to better their future.

Governor Ododo gave the charge Monday while unveiling the Youth Digital Database – that would store the various skills and talents of the youth; at the celebration of the 2024 International Youth Day held at the Government House Lokoja.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Joel Oyibo, said that his administration believes so much in the ability of the youths to help in the transformation drive of the state, assuring that he will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the youth harness the potentials abound in technology.

He said that his administration was ready to empower them with the right tools and opportunities to showcase their talents and skills.

He urged the youths to take advantage of the youth digital data base to let the government discover them for proper application of their God given talents and skills toward the growth and development of the state.

The state commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Hon. Monday Anyebe, said the theme of the 2024 International Youth Day, “From Click To Progress: Youth Digital Pathway For Sustainable Development” resonated deeply with the dynamic and digital age the youth are currently navigating.

The Commissioner urged Kogi youth to take ownership of their digital futures and embrace the opportunities that digital technologies offered.

“I am also urging you to be mindful of the challenges. Use your digital skills to drive positive change, contribute to sustainable development, and build a brighter future for yourselves and the generations to come” he stated.

Speaking on the unveiling of the Kogi State Youth Database by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Commissioner, noted that the innovation which was initiated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development was a testament to the ministry’s dedication to leveraging digital tools for sustainable development.

“The youth database is designed to be a comprehensive platform that will not only document the skills, talents, and aspirations of our young people but also connect them with opportunities for growth and development.

“This platform will serve as a bridge between our youth and various stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector partners, and international organizations. It will facilitate access to resources, training, and mentorship, thereby enabling our young people to take full advantage of the digital economy” the Commissioner said.
