By Boluwaji Obahopo, Lokoja

THE Vice Chancellor, Salem University, Lokoja, Professor Alewo Akubo has said that if Nigeria want to have a sustainable education, private universities must be given adequate attention by the Federal government.

He made this known on Monday during a press conference kick-starting the 6th Convocation Ceremony comprising of 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sets of the institution.

Akubo said, “Private universities are not training graduates for private use, but for the larger society; so, they too must benefit what Federal and State Universities are benefitting.

“Federal government should pay attention to private universities by given them special consideration through TETfund to assist them as this will go a long way in assisting the private universities.

“The future of education in Nigeria lies mostly with the private universities which hold the future. Public universities are more expensive than private universities, but the Federal or State government is subsidizing for them,”he said.

On the forthcoming Convocation, Akubo said the institution will be graduating 41 first class out of the 499 students graduates from the 7 colleges of the institution.

“On Wednesday, the 27th of November, 2024 there will be a convocation lecture which would be delivered by an erudite Professor of political economy , Professor Sam Egwu.”

The VC also reeled out some of the achievements recorded by the university in the last sixteen years.
End.
