YULETIDE: Kogi Police Commissioner Ban Use of Fireworks, Orders Arrest, Prosecution of Users, Sellers.
The Nigerian Police in Kogi State has banned the use of fireworks, also known in the local parlance as ‘Knockout’ or ‘Banga’
Aside from that, shop owners who sell firework will also be arrested and prosecuted.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Police, Bethrand Onuoha made this known through a statement by the Police Public Relations officer, SP. William Anya.
The statement which was made available to newsmen on Friday in Lokoja reads apart, “The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, psc (+), has ban the use of Fireworks popularly known as “Knockout or Banga” in the State.
“He (CP) gave this order while briefing members of the Command Management Team at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja. The CP further disclosed that some criminal elements uses fireworks to commit heinous crime, therefore, the Command will not allow these acts of criminality to continue to operate in the State.
“The CP advised parents and Guardians to warn their Children and Wards to desist from playing knockout in the State. Stating that the Officers were directed to arrest and prosecute anyone who violates this order.
“He further warn that any shop owner who sales or supply fireworks (Banga) in the State will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
“While urging the Law-abiding Kogites to volunteer information on any shop selling fireworks to the Law Enforcement Agents nearest to them.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police further assures the good people of Kogi State that the Police in synergy with other Security Agencies are ever determined to ensure the safety of life and property in the State. While calling on all Law-abiding members of the public for their cooperation and support by reporting any suspicious activities or objects within their community to the nearest Security Agents for prompt response.”
