Following Public Outcry, Gov. Ododo Cancel Tax Clearance Certificate as Prerequisites for Students Enrollment In Kogi Schools

Kogi State government has cancelled the presentation of parents Tax Clearance Certificate as Prerequisites for enrollment into tertiary institutions.
The Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue Services (KGIRS), Sule Enehe made this known on Tuesday in Lokoja
He said the governor ordered that the decision of the agency and the circular mandating Parent to present their Tax Clearance Certificate as prerequisites for students enrolment be stoped immediately.
“The decision by the Governor followed the public outcry. The governor said his administration will not inflict pain on the citizens.
“The Governor however urge citizens to pay their taxes and update their tax payment as at scheduled.”
Enehe however said the agency will look around and find better way to make parents comply with the prompt payment of their taxes.
He said the state bursary schemes and order freebies enjoyed by students in the state public schools will be look into to ensure that the parents are up to date in their tax payment.
Enehe however said the state in 2025 is targeting N35 billion as internally Generated revenue.
“Last year target was N30.4 billion and we were able to generate N27 billion. our target this year is a bit higher and we’re positive that will will get the target.
“The governor performance has ease our job as we have project around to point at, which motivates tax payers to pay.”
