TCC REVERSAL: Activist Applauds Gov. Ododo, Wants State Tax Law Reviewed

Human Rights activist, Idris Miliki Abdul, has commended the state government for the reversal of the parent Tax Clearance Certificate baits programed as a requirement for students registration in Kogi State.

Miliki who is the Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflicts Resolution (CHRCR) who spoke on Tuesday in a statement in Lokoja on Tuesday.

The Activist however called on the state government to also review other tax law that are inimical to the populace in the state.

The statement reads apart, “Cancelation or Reversing the Tax clearance certificate as a condition for students Registration at various higher institutions in Kogi State, by the governor, Usman Ododo, is a welcome development and commendable.

“Government are put in place by the people, and every government policy should reflect the genuine welfare and well-being of the people.

“We call on the for the general review of the tax laws in Kogi State, in conjunction and collaboration with relevant stakes holders in the state. While citizens are expected to pay legitimate tax, the tax instructions in Kogi State should be in enlightenment, strategy communication, while the government should establish industrial institutions that can generate employment and huge income to the state with out necessarily over taxing the citizens.

“We have local people that still find it difficult to to survive base on the situation and reality of the moment. Every major policy of government such as this One under review should be subject to the citizens Engagement and their inputs as not to have wrong impression of government intensions.”
