Lagos Assembly Chaos, Threat to National Security – Security Expert, Babaeko

A security and Development expect, Mr. Seyi Babaeko has called on the President Bola Tinubu to ensure that separation of power prevailed in Lagos House of Assembly.

Mr. Babaeko said the debacle at the Lagos State Assembly is a threat to national security and democracy and must not be handled with levity.

Babaeko made his known in a statement issued in Lokoja on Tuesday.

The statement said, “The impeachment crisis following the removal of former Lagos State Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, and the ongoing tensions are shameful and unnecessary.

“The matter is already before a court of coordinate jurisdiction, yet the situation continues to escalate in an unacceptable and troubling manner. This crisis poses a serious threat to national security and the promotion of democracy.

“The vote of confidence on Hon. Mojishola Meranda reflects a clear and unanimous decision by the Assembly members to stand by their choice. Whether Obasa’s impeachment followed due process is a question for the court to decide.

“The swift intervention of the DSS and the Police to maintain order is commendable. However, it is crucial for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the leader of the nation and the Chief Security Officer, to step in to protect national peace and stability.

“Nigeria cannot afford to have its democracy undermined by a few individuals. Acting now will prevent further damage.”
End.
