Teachers in Kogi State under the umbrella of the Nigerian Union of Teachers have declared that their is ‘No Vacancy in Lugard House’ until after the present administration of Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo completed his constitutional eight years.

The Teachers made the declaration on Wednesday in Lokoja at a press conference after a prayer session to mark the 2025 Solemn Assembly of the union.

KOGI NUT chairman, Comrade Yakubu Dauda, stated that the administration of Governor Ododo has been rewarding for Primary School Teachers in the State.

“This administration has brought smiles to the faces of Primary School Teachers. First, we praised Governor Ododo’s nomination of the immediate past State Chairman of NUT, Comrade Joel Salifu as Deputy Governor.

“We commended Governor Ododo for acceding to the age long demand of the union in the implementation of 100% minimum wage to Primary School Teachers in the basic Education sub sector and bringing them at par with workers in the State Civil Service.

“We expressed appreciation to the administration of Governor Ododo for his approval to carry Teachers along in the SEVENTY TWO THOUSAND NAIRA minimum wage payment.”

Dauda eulogized the governor for the payment of September 2020 Salary arrears, added that the up to date remittances of UBEC counterpart funds for the provision of infrastructure and instructional materials in the sub sector remained unprecedented.

The NUT Chairman said the prayer session known as Solemn Assembly was geared towards kick starting the new year by Primary School Teachers by thanking God and praying for a safer environment to operate.

The teachers however seek the state government intervention in cash backing of their promotions and incremental rates.

They also appealed for the employment of Teachers to address the acute shortage of manpower as well as training and retraining of teachers.
