NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER: Natasha Again Submits ‘another sexual harassment’ petition against Akpabio
CHAIRMAN, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has again presented before the Senate during plenary a sexual harassment petition against Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
This time, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan presented the petition on behalf of her constituents led by Zubairu Yakubu.
After the presentation of the petition, the President of the Senate asked if there were legal impediments and Natasha answered, saying there was none and Akpabio at 12,38pm, asked her to lay the petition.
Akpabio referred the petition to the Senator Neda Imasuen, LP, Edo South led Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions to report to plenary in four weeks after legislative actions.
Recall that there was confusion yesterday when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan forwarded a similar petition on sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio when tue Senate Chief Whip, Senator Mohammed Monguno, APC, Borno North raised order 40 of the Senate Standing Order, stating that the matter cannot not be entertained or refered to the Ethics Committee on the grounds that Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and wife of the President of the Senate, Mrs Ekaette Akpabio were in court and subjidice, just as he said that in line with the Order, the petition cannot be taken because Senator Natasha signed the petition.
Subsequently yesterday, the Senator Neda Imasuen led Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions threw it out and described it as dead on arrival.
Recall that a heated confrontation unfolded during Senate plenary session last penultimate Thursday when Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan protested the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, leading to tense moments in the chamber as the session took an unexpected turn when she arrived to find her seat reassigned, with her nameplate removed.
Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who raised her voice in protest, however demanded an explanation for what she perceived as an unjustified move.
