ONE YEAR OF TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP AND ACHIEVEMENTS: MOUKTAR ATIMAH’S 1ST YEAR ANNIVERSARY AS KOSEMA EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
It is with immense admiration and heartfelt congratulations to Alh Mouktar Atimah on his first year anniversary as the Executive Secretary Kogi State Emergency Management Agency ( KOSEMA). We joined the legion of your well-wishers to felicitate with you on the achievements made at helm of the Agency.
Your leadership acumen marked by humility and commitment characterized by expertise, innovation, and passion for excellence, have been instrumental in steering KOSEMA towards greater heights.
The phenomenal turnaround of the Agency and your stewardship in the past year is calibrated by the following remarkable achievements and transformation:
i. Under your strategic leadership, the Agency has conducted stakeholders visits to various MDAs and traditional institution, and as well played host to many stakeholders in disaster management to strengthen synergy and collaboration.
ii. The Agency has organised a stakeholders’ workshop that involved larger engagement. It was an epoch making event in the annals of disaster management and flood preparedness. This was used to strengthen synergy and cooperation among stakeholders in preparedness to anticipated 2024 flood and identify the support needed to enhance mitigation and response plan which has helped to manage 2024 flood efficiently and effectively.
III. Establishment of technical committee on flood management and community based campaign, and sensitization awareness were timely organised, marked by minimizing the impacts of 2024 flood disaster.
iv. Idenfication of IDPs camps in nine (9) Local Government Areas prone to flood disaster enhanced effective camp coordination and management in 2024 flood.
v. Profiling of affected victims of 2024 flood provided seamless distribution of relief materials, including health care facilities to the victims in the various designated internally displaced person camps
vi. Distribution of relief materials to the victims of the fire disaster in Jamata area in Lokoja LGA and Bagana Communal Crisis/Agojeju-Odo Herder’s Attack in Omala LGA, etc.
vii. Kogi Government through KOSEMA disbursed #34.2 million to victims of Lokoja GSM Village fire incident on the 8th January, 2025.
viii. The Agency (SEMA) has continued to enhance effective disaster management knowledge and skills through training and re-training of its staff on capacity building in line with the Agency’s vision to create more awareness on preparedness, response and mitigation plans ahead of any forms of disasters.
ix. Building on robust relationship and collaboration with National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other critical stakeholders in disaster management.
x. Staff engagement on-the-spot assessment has helped to ascertain disaster damage on buildings and infrastructure facilities.
xi. Establishment of an effective Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) during 2024 flood.
xii. Successful establishment and approval of additional departments in the Agency for better emergency management. They include: Search and Rescue, ICT, and Disaster Reduction Management Departments for the Agency under the present leadership.
In the light of the above, your strategic leadership has defined your capacity, operational efficiency and responsiveness to the diverse disaster challenges. Also, the establishment and approval of new departments, especially the ICT is a bold step that underscores your forward-thinking approach and commitment to leveraging technology.
We pray that God Almighty continues to guide our dear Governor, the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for believing in your capacity and political network.
Also, We pray for Allah’s protection and continued success as you navigate the complexities of disaster management in Kogi State.
