APWEN Gets New Kogi Chairman, As Nigerians Urged to
Encourage Girls Become Engineers.
Every family in Nigeria have been advised to ensure they have an Engineer, particularly the female gender in their homes towards making the society great.
Engr. Joan Ogwuche, Kogi State Coordinator, the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), made the appeal while speaking as the guest Speaker at the Inauguration Ceremony of Engr. Attach Cecilia A. MNSE as the 4th APWEN Chairman and 2024/2025 Kogi Chapter Executives Confluence State
The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, is a division of Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Speaking on the topic; “Striking the balance as a successful Professional Career Woman, Wife and Mother”, Engr. Ogwuche pointed out that where families can’t produce female Engineers, they should encourage the marriage of Engineers by their daughters, described the female Engineers as good home makers.
She emphasized that for a workable society that will check the current challenges bedeviling the society in anti social vices by children and husbands, said there is the need for working mothers to strike a balance between work and their home.
While she emphasized on the need for women to contribute to the home through working, she however said the panacea needed to build a better society and family requires professionals and working mothers who are precise, time conscious and all rounders like female Engineers to balance their homes.
“No matter your busy schedule failure to strike a balance as women professionals, without paying attention to your husbands and children is an error”.
Engr. Ogwuche advised mothers and women to teach their children morals and values, so as not to bring shame to their parents.
“What you get in your old age is a product of what you sow in the lives of your husband and children today. As mothers and professionals, we must make out time to balance our work and family life”.
“Find a definition of balance by making sacrifices, by being flexible in meeting with the peculiarities of your home. Concentrate on your husband and children with honesty on their needs through time management. As women, we need to be discipline in values”.
“Use effective communication strategy to set boundaries for work and family. As women, let’s be transparent to our husbands and our children”.
” Let’s embrace effective communication with our husbands and children towards reducing conflict. We need to know our strength in the house. Let’s appeal for help in the house chores and because we work for money, let’s also allow where necessary for our money to work for us”.
” Let’s show proper care to our mental health by finding a few time of rest”, pointing out that a happy mother has a happy home and that a healthy home translates to a good working environment and home.
” Where the society, husband and children enjoy the attention of working mothers, the family and society becomes the greatest beneficiary with increase contribution to nation development”.
Earlier in her remarks, Engr. Christina Ojoyi Omotola the 3 APWAN Chairman, Kogi State Chapter, said the vision of APWEN is to encourage women in Nigeria to become female engineers, described the Engineering profession as a catalyst for the much talked about nations advancement in technology.
Engr. Omotola added that towards National and global technical development the Nigeria envisions, said the vision of APWEN is to encourage women to achieve professional excellence as engineers and leaders.
She described the objectives of APWEN as providing a forum for promoting sorority amongst female engineers as well as to encourage the study and practice of engineering amongst female nigerians said aside Increased membership, carrying out advocacy for girls to show interest in Engineering, her tenure has taken the association to another height.
Highpoint of the Inauguration was the administration of oath of office on Ebgr. Attah Cecilia. Born in 1967, an indigene of Dekina LGA , a Graduate of Civil Engineering from the Kaduna State Polytechnic, with Water Resources option, Engr. Attah holds a PGD in Civil Engineering from Federal University Minna, later proceeded for her Masters in Civil Engineering option that is in view.
The new APWAN Chairman promised to increase advocacy for the girl child to embrace the engineer profession, promised to justify the confidence reposed on her.
Highlights of the Inauguration was the oath of administration of APWEN and decoration done on Engr. Attah Cecilia, the new Chairman by the outgone Chairman, Engr. Christina Ojoyi Omotola. Similarly, the New Chairman, inaugurated of the new state chapter.
