In response to rising kidnapping incidents in his domain, the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Sunday Karimi has turned to spiritual measures, especially prayers, as a way to address the crisis.

This approach he said reflects his belief in the power of religious practices especially Christian and Islam to deter criminals and restore peace in the land.

Karimi said it is high time that the area consult with God to intervene in incessant kidnapping incidents being recorded in their communities.

Speaking at the First ECWA church, Lokoja on Thursday, at the program he tagged “Kogi West Seek the Face of God” Karimi said he has been saddened by the incessant kidnapping cases in the district.

“We are not pleased at all over the increasing incidents of kidnapping in our communities. An army Major was killed recently after ransom was paid, a first class monarch was kidnapped in his house and ransom was paid before he was released.

“Though federal government said no one should pay ransom, but no one will allow his family members to be left in the hands of kidnappers.

“The situation is very bad and it is giving us very bad spotlight in the public space. Towards this end, we have resorted to take this matter to the next level by consulting higher beings, the Almighty God.

“I was advised by someone to consult a marabout in one of the core northern state over the situation, but after due deliberation with my family, we felt it’s better to consult with the Christian and Islamic body. I am aware that the Israelites faced similar security challenges in the bible and spoke with God, who delivered them. I know the God of then is still the God of now, and He will answer our prayers.”

Karimi who was early at the Lokoja Mosque to observe the Islamic prayers, said the prayers will be held across the two religious group in all the seven LGA of the district. He likewise said he has commenced a session of fasting, to underscore his belief in the efficacy of prayer to address the ugly trend.”
