KOSEMA DISTRIBUTES RELIEF MATERIALS TO OWARA FLOOD VICTIMS
In continuation of Kogi State Government efforts to assist victims and Communities affected by 2025 flood disaster, the State Flood Response Team led by the Executive Secretary Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Alh Mouktar Atimah, were at Owara community for a direct distribution of relief materials, including food and non-food items, drugs and medical diagnosis to monitor treatment of any disease outbreak in the camps.
In the address he delivered on behalf of Kogi State Government, he stated that the issuance of relief items to Owara community was based on the assessment conducted on the flood victims by the State Emergency preparedness and response team led by SEMA to the community. The items were brought here in line with the directive of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, the Chief Servant His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, to ensure that all affected victims of 2025 flood were provided with necessary short, medium and long term support to enable them recover from the disaster. The relief intervention by the State Government is not a compensation, but rather a responsibility to support the welfare and well-being of Kogi citizens being affected by disasters.
While addressing IDPs, he urged them to support Kogi State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, stressing that his government is committed in safe-guarding, and enhancing the social well-being of the citizens.
He concluded his speech by assuring the victims of livelihood materials that would help them stand on their feet and return to normal life.
The direct relief distribution exercise, which was conducted in Owara Community in Loloja Local Government Area also witnessed presence of relevant stakeholders which included the Special Adviser on SEMA to Kogi Governor, Dr. Sandra Musa; Special Adviser on Emergency to Kogi Governor, Alhaji Muhammed Shuaibu; as well as Special Adviser on IDPs to Kogi Governor, Hon. Jibrin Ibrahim; Representative from Kogi State Deputy Governor’s office; Director Lokoja LGA, Mr Musa Aliyu Omuwa; Directors and Senior Staff SEMA; Lokoja LGA LEMC members, HRH Obaro of Owara, Alhaji Seidu Adoga Aliyu; State medical team from Ministry of Health; Representatives from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps; Representatives from Federal and State Fire Services; as well as Representatives from Nigerian Red Cross; Representative from Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; and memebers of host community.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, the Owara community youth leader, Mr Hamza Okura Yakubu, thanked the state government for the relief materials, adding that His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is a “talk and do Governoer”.
In his remarks, HRH Obaro of Owara, Alhaji Seidu Adoga Aliyu, lauded the relief distribution exercise, commended State Government for the robust interventions, assuring his domain’s total support to the current government led by His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
