The Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ has postponed the election for new executive in Kogi State.
The election was supposed to be a formality as no one picked firm to challenge the present occupants.
The postponement was contained in a press statement by the 2020 credential Chairman and Secretary, Ebenezer Adurodija, Grace Ben Kato respectively.
The statement read apart:
“In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kogi State Council elections bill to hold on Thursday, 9 April, 2020, has been put on hold.
“The election which is designed to usher in a new State Executive Council of the Union in the State, was put on hold after due consultation with the National body of the Union.
“A new date for the election would be announced in due course after consultation with relevant stakeholders.
“Meanwhile, the National Secretariat of the Union has directed that the Present State Executive Council should continue to run the affairs of the Union until the processes of elections are successfully concluded.
“We call on all working Journalists in Kogi State to remain calm, stay safe and observe personal and environmental hygiene as they go about their professional duties.”End
