HEAL FOR AFRICA INITIATIVE (HFAI) KICK STARTS SERIES OF ACTIVITIES FOR WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY

More action & investment in menstrual health & hygiene now!

As the world marks 2021 World Menstrual Hygiene Day, HEAL FOR AFRICA INITIATIVE (HFAI) has put in full force activities to commemorate the day.

Founder of the NGO, Dr. Kelechi Okoro in a statement on Wednesday said the preparations for the Menstrual Hygiene Day 2021 are running at full steam around the country,

According to her, “Towards this end, we shall be hosting a conference on Saturday, May 29, 2021 with the theme: “Dissecting the three P’s of Menstruation: Period Stigma, Period Poverty, Period Challenges.

“We believe that a world without Period poverty and stigma is possible. But to achieve this, we must not wait, fold our hands, or close our eyes to the menstrual poverty in our society. We need to step up action and investment in menstrual health and hygiene NOW.

“We therefore urged parents, adolescent girls and other critical stakeholders to participate fully in the conference.

“We also welcome contributions that will assist in giving our girls a better life.”

Dr.Ufuoma Adingwupu, Member, Nigeria Media Association, (NMA) National Committee on Menstrual Hygiene; Dr. Chinonso Egemba (famous Health influencer on twitter known as Akproko Doctor ); and Dr. Aro Omu, founder, Sanitary Aid Initiative are billed as speakers at the conference. The panel session will be hosted by Dr StellaMaris Ifunanya Anyanwu

The conference which is already endorsed by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) National Committee on Menstrual Hygiene can be view live through Zoom:

Also, the NGO has also scheduled series of radio and TV features across the country(Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Benin, Ibadan, Abuja, Kogi, etc) to mark Menstrual Hygiene Day 2021 in collaboration with the global body in charge of Menstrual Hygiene Day (menstrualhygieneday.org)

The Enugu Team Lead and Project Director MHDay2021, Dr. Ifunanya StellaMaris will be live on Coal City 92.9 FM on Friday, May 28, 2021 to speak about the year theme by 9:30 am.

“NMA is committed to engage individuals and organizations to promote menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and make recommendations to the government and work with same to draft National MHM strategies” – Dr Yetunde Oludare , Chairman, NMA National Committee on Menstrual Hygiene

We have also organized a social media challenge “Menstrual Bracelet Challenge” to encourage participation amongst all Nigerians. Details are available below.
