The hope for the upgrading of the ABU college of agriculture in Kabba, Kogi State, to a full fledged Federal University of Agriculture, Kabba was on Wednesday brightened as the senate accepted the second reading of the bill.
The Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University Of Agriculture, Kabba to Make Comprehension for Due Management and Administration and For Related Matters, 2020 ( Sb. 282) is being sponsored by Senator Smart Adeyemi representing Kogi west Senatorial district.
The second reading of the bill has elicited positive reactions from people of the state especially those from Kogi West constituency, who regarded the bill as dearest to their heart.
The senator has also rekindled the hope of his people for having a vibrant representative, as within a month of his re-entrance to the National Assembly, Adeyemi has sponsored two bills.
Feelers from the Red chamber also hinted Peoples Defender that the Senate President, Sen. Ahmad Lawan, has spoken of his supports for the bill behind closed door meetings.
Senator Adeyemi it was also gathered had already made way to persuade the executive towards having a quick and smooth assent; once the bill is passed.
The bill was first read on the floor of the senate on Friday, December 20, 2019.
Speaking to journalists after the plenary, Sen. Smart Adeyemi said the college was one of the legacies of the late premier of northern region. He stated further that if Ahmadu Bello was to be alive, the over 55 years old institution would have been upgraded into a Full Fletch university.
He said all the talking and lobby required will be done to ensure the passage and acceptance by the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari and his administration.
He said, “With the dwelling earnings from oil products globally; emanating from climate change, all efforts must be geared towards encouraging agriculture at all levels.”
Smart Adeyemi said he had the support of Governor Yahaya Bello and the people of Kogi state in sponsoring the bill into an act and his confident of the presidential assent; adding that governor Yahaya Bello is going to play a major role after the passage of the bill.
