Insecurity heightens in Kogi as Gunmen Kill Two Navy Officer at Checkpoint

Gunmen attack checkpoint, Kill two Navy officers in Kogi.

Gunmen on Wednesday evening attacked a military checkpoint in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing two men of the Nigerian Navy.

The Navy officers who were attacked at about 7 pm at the check point in Okene were just resuming for duty.

The suspected gunmen numbering seven were said to have open fire on the Navy Officers on duty immediately they arrived the check point.

A source said immediately they were done, they escaped from the check point and speed away to avoid been confronted.

The Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Abdulrazaq Muhammed who confirmed the story  in a statement by his Media Aide, Abdulmumin Muhammed said five of the Navy officer were attacked.

In a statement from his Media aide, said, “Two officers have been confirmed dead and two were injured and currently receiving treatment in hospital. One officer escaped unhurt.”

The Public Relation Officer of the Navy in the state, SLt. Aidi Simi when contacted said “Our command will get to you shortly…we are trying to take charge of the situation”.
