Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Prince Matthew Kolawole has eulogized the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for his concerted efforts to rescue the people of Kogi and Kwara States from the shackle of bad roads that run from Kabba, his constituency through to Yagba land to Ilorin in Kwara state.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen on Friday in Lokoja by Femi Olugbemi, Chief Press Secretary to the Honourable Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly.
According to the statement, the Speaker said it is heart lifting that the long abandoned only federal road that connected Ilorin and Kabba the headquarters of Kogi West Senatorial District was captured in the 2021 budget estimate being presented to the National Assembly by the President yesterday.
He said he was elated when he saw item number 21 on the President’s Speech to the National Assembly, that the project will be executed under the Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme (RITCS). ‘’We are undertaking the construction and rehabilitation of over 780km of roads and bridges nationwide, to be financed by the grant of tax credit to investing business. Ongoing projects under this scheme include: a. Construction and Rehabilitation of Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba-Ilorin Road Section II (Obajana-Kabba) in Kogi and Kwara States’’
He said the President has shown enough commitment to see to the realization of the projects in record time, stressing that Obajana – Kabba road Section I is a good example of the giant strides of the current All Progressive Congress (APC) led federal government in the provision of road infrastructures in the country.
The Speaker noted with excitement that this cannot happen without the efforts of a vibrant and energetic Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello who on different occasions has visited the Honourable Minister for Works and Housing, Barrister Babatunde Fashola to draw his attention to the deplorable state of federal roads in Kogi State.
He said Governor Yahaya Bello has continued to display his love for the people of the state and remained resolute to make sure whatever is due the state will be harnessed for the overall benefit of the people.
Kolawole also used the medium to commend Senator Smart Adeyemi for his golden voice at the National Assembly, stressing that it was during his second term in the 7th Senate that the road received attention last; hence the senatorial district is back on track.
He commended the 9th National Assembly under the watch of Most Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawal and Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for their purposeful leadership in returning the country to the January/December budget circle.
According to him, the cordial working relationship of both the legislature and the executive is a partnership that will move the country in the right direction, urging the National Assembly to expedite actions in the passage of the budget.
He called on all the representatives from Kogi State at the National Assembly to continue to work together for the overall benefit of the state, urging them to facilitate as many projects as possible to the state, as that is the only way the people will feel the presence of the federal government in their areas.
