Kogi Assembly To Start 2021 With Recess

LOKOJA – Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday, December 29, adjourned Plenary sitting to March 2, 2021.The longest adjournment in the history of the Assembly.

The development means the 25 members Assembly will commenced 2021 on recess even without a single day legislative activities.

The adjournment followed the day plenary sitting where the legislators passed the 2021 budget as well as screened secretaries nominees for the 21 Local government area of the state.

The Chief Whip of the House, Muktar Bajeh in a motion has called for the adjournment which was seconded by the Deputy Whip; a development that was greated with puzzled- eye by some of the members necessitating the Speaker, Kolawole Matthew to go into explanation on why the House will adjourned for so long.

Mr. Kolawole said “This adjournment is because the House want to observe her annual eight week recess. So starting from January, the House will embarked on its recess to resume on March 2.”

During plenary the legislature has passed the 2021 budget proposal raising it from the N120 billion requested by the executive to N130 billion.

The Speaker said the decision to raised the amount was to take proper care of some ministries that were under-budgeted for.

The Assembly also decline to screen the Secretary nominee of Adavi council area, Jimoh Ozigi Omeiza due to petition regarding his dismissal from public service over financial misappropriation; which he failed to absolves himself from.

All the other 20 LGA secretaries nominees were screened with the popular Assembly “Take a Bow and Go”.
