KOGI GOVT URGED TO ESTABLISH YOUTH DEV. COMMISSION

Kogi State Government has been urged to take steps towards the take off of the Kogi State Youth Development Commission.

       The appeal was made at an Advocacy and round table meeting on the Operationalization of the Kogi Youth Development in Lokoja.

     The Executive Director of PIBCID, Halima Oyiza- Sadiq said the passage of the bill and subsequent assent by Governor Yahaya Bello was to give youths a new lease of life.

       She however lamented that the Commission was yet to take off after about two years and appealed to government to ensure its commencement in the interest of youths.

      Halima urged participants to come up with ideas that will help to achieve the objective, adding that Kogi state has a youth population of over one point eight million.

   In a presentation, the representative of Action-aid, Anicetus Atakpu noted that government was yet to focus more on youth empowerment, research and development.

        Anicetus explained that the Commission, when established, will serve as think tank on policy formulation and coordination for youth development in Kogi state.

     Kogi State Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Alhaji Adeiza Momohjimoh expressed optimism that government will soon do the needful on the Commission.

      Alhaji Adeiza commended the organizers for the initiative, assuring that the media will continue to live above board in its assignment.

      Participants at the meeting include representatives of youth groups, NGOs, Civil Society Organisations, Religious body market women and other relevant stakeholders.
