The Kogi state Commissioner for Health, Saka Haruna has described as false publication making the rounds implying that Kogi State pays the lowest salaries to doctors and the only one yet to adopt the Revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) of 2014.
The commissioner said it is on record that only 7 states in the Federation have fully adopted the Revised CONMESS of 2014.
He stressed that the government before the strike action held meetings with the Association of Resident Doctors and agreed on what needed to be done to improve remuneration for doctors.
Dr Saka said the state government is indeed proud of the doctors for their resilience, hard work and uncanny cooperation during the critical time of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He noted that in appreciation of the doctors immense contributions to shielding the state from the pandemic, Governor Yahaya Bello directed the implementation of the new Salary Structure (Revised CONMESS 2014) with effect from the month of September, 2020).
The commissioner called on the general public to disregard the said publication as it is just as fictitious and malicious as it is without an admissible author.
According to him, plan has been put in place to integrate the new salary structure for doctors into the budget proposal for 2021, stressing that the budgetary provision would greatly improve the remuneration for doctors in the State and surpass that of many other States.
Dr Saka said the New Direction Administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has commenced massive Health Sector upgrade in terms of infrastructural development and would be complemented by human resource development through improved welfare package and capacity building for all Health workers.
