Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the last year Kogi West rerun election, Dino Melaye and the party agents has continue to give Contradictory statements before the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.
On Monday, at the tribunal led by Justice Isa Sambo, the Petitioner, Dino Melaye has asked the court to declare him winner of the November 16 rerun election, describing as “fictitious” the result of the supplemantary election conducted on November 30 for the Senatorial district.
He also denied the statement of some of his agents who in previous court sittings has testified before the court that the election was fair and violence free; saying the agents cannot speak for him, neither can he speak for the agents.
As hearing continued on Tuesday, one of the witness, an agent for PDP said the supplemantary election the party candidate said did not took place actually held and result were tabulated by the INEC.
The witness, Toluhi Segun, Okekoko Ward, Kabba/Bunu LGA who served as the LG collation officer for PDP also said he visited nine polling units on the supplemantary day, contrary to Dino Melaye who said no election took place.
While being cross examined by counsel to INEC, Barr. Chris Lashey, Segun said he visited nine polling units, voted at units 009 Demonstration, Kabba, but did not stayed at his polling unit till the end of the election.
Segun said the information he gave in paragraph( 9-57) of his dispositions were based on what his agents at the poll gave him, which he subsequently forwarded to the LGA Chairman of his Party.
The agent however when cross examined by counsel to Senator Smart Adeyemi, Dr. Otitoju Oladapo, said he could not remember the number of polling units supplemantary election was ordered, but said the November 30 supplementary election took place in his Ward and other wards across the Senatorial district.
When presented with Exhibit P4:1-49, Segun confirmed that PDP agents were present at the supplemantary election and signed the result from the poll.
He also said at the end of the supplemantary election, PDP scores 66 while APC scores 95 at his voting unit.
He said despites campaigning vigorously for PDP prior to election, his efforts did not yield positive result; as his party still lost in his Ward.
The agent, who said he obtained HND in Accounting, PGD in Financial Management, said he relied on his educational qualification to analyze the results of the election.
He equally agreed that he failed to list in his statement on Oath all the polling units he visited during the election, said the result he gave to his party chairmen, gotten from report he tabulated from his agents, were quite different from the result presented to him in the court, which shows the original INEC result.
The tribunal subsequently adjourned to 22nd April, 2020, with the petitioner having only two days left to close his case.
