The Federal University, Lokoja officially commenced its Master and Doctorate Programs following the matriculation of 299 students for the school of Post Graduate Studies.
The matriculation/orientation ceremony held during the week for Post Graduate students was however the second in the school who had last year conducted similar ceremony only for Post Graduate diploma students.
The Dean, School of Postgraduate studies, Prof. Patrick Audu at the occasion called on students of the institution to make use of the school environment to advance themselves towards excellence, stating that the school will not take anything less than the best from the students.
Prof. Audu urged the PGDs students to redefine their skills to make them global leaders, stressing the needs for them to interact more with other students and the school environment.
“Make the most of your time here at Federal University Lokoja. You are already familiar with the demands of the university learning and you now have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge while at the same time encountering new bodies of knowledge to which you were not fully exposed to during your undergraduate studies. I will also advise, you use your time here to refine the skills that will enhance successful completion of your program. Our mission in this University is about academic excellence. 
“You are therefore enjoined to take advantage of all the human and physical facilities available in this University to improve and equip yourselves to be able to meet the challenges of Postgraduate studies and compete favourably with your colleagues from any University globally.”
Guest speaker for the ceremony, Prof. Sylvester Onoja, urged the institution and the students to see themselves as the mirror of the society, “I therefore see the establishment of the school of Postgraduate studies at this relatively young citadel of learning as the mirror through which it will be persistently and consistently examine its life with regards to its performance in its overall relevance and contributions to the advancement of the frontiers of knowledge as well as the quality of life of the community it is established to serve.
“In this connection, it must periodically ask itself the following relevant questions if it really seeks to carve a niche in the tanks of global leaders; in our undergraduate and postgraduate programs, are we globally recognized as a stable for moulding the human person, character and dignity?
“Are we as an institution, accepted as a global intellectual Oven for baking complete and competitive products.?
“Are we as an institution, diligently and purposefully working towards attaining the status of global ambassador committed to its dreams and ideals as well as becoming citizens of the world by building bridges of understanding and cooperation between their Alma Mater and other similar institutions and individuals”.
