The Non- Academic Staff Union of Universites will on Monday, January 11, embarked on a 3 -days protest to show their grievances to the Federal government over some sundry issues.
The protest is a prelude to a total industrial actions according to the association.
This was made known in a letter sent to all the state branches by the national executive after the meeting of the Joint Action Congress of NASU and SANNU.
The letter tittled, “THE POSITION OF JAC (NASU/SSANU) ON THE MEMORANDUMOF UNDERSTANDING (MoU) REACHED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON 20” OCTOBER, 2020: DIRECTIVE TO BRANCHES TO EMBARK ON A THREE (3) DAY PROTEST.
The letter read apart a, “The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of NASU and SSANU met on Friday, 8 January, 2021 at Bolton White Hotel Abuja to review the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached and signed with the Federal Government on Tuesday, 20 October, 2020 at the Honourable Minister’s Conference Room, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment. (A copy is attached for ease of reference).
“For the avoidance of doubt, the issues for which the Memorandum ofUnderstanding was entered are as follows:i. Inconsistencies in the IPPIS paymentNon-Payment of Earned Allowances (EA)ii. Non-Payment of Arrears of Minimum Wageiv. Delay in renegotiation of FGN/NASU and SSANU 2009 AgreementsIii. Non-Payment of retirement benefits of outgone members.Iv. Teaching staff usurping Headships of non-teaching units in clear violation of Conditions of Service and Establishment procedures
V. Neglect and Poor Funding of State UniversitiesVi. Non-constitution of Visitation Panels for Universities.
“The JAC Observed with disappointment that the Federal Government has completely tailed to address any of the issues contained in theMemorandum of Understanding (MoU).”In view of this development, JAC therefore directs as follows: that a general meeting of JAC in all branches of Universities and Inter-University Centres be mandatorily held on Monday 11” January, 2021 to sensitize members on the issues as contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
“That a 3 Day Protest should hold from Tuesday, 12 to Thursday, 14 January, 2021 at each Branch from 8am -4pm each day.
“Branch Leaders are to ensure that the press is fully mobilized and carried along in the protests. State, Zonal and National Officers of JAC shall monitor the 3 Day Protest to ensure strict compliance by branches.
“Every Branch should ensure that all members fully participate in the protests while all Covid 19 protocols are to be complied with.
“As the Branch Protests mark the beginning of a series of Industrial Actions to be undertaken by JAC, you are to await further directives immediately after the 3 day Protest.
“Every Branch must comply and strictly adhere to these directives.”
