National Rice Council: Sen. Adeyemi wants headquarters in Lokoja
Senator Smart Adeyemi of Kogi West senatorial district has advocated for the establishment of National Rice Council headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
Adeyemi while contributing on the floor of the Senate on the bill for the establishment of the National Rice Council, which was in its second reading.
The bill to establish the National Rice Development Council of Nigeria to enhance local production of rice in Nigeria is being sponsored by Senator Bima Enagi(APC-Niger).
Adeyemi in his contribution said their was an already established Rice mill in Kogi State which with serve as a complimentary purpose.
He said the multi billion Naira Rice Mill built by Governor Yahaya Bello in Kogi West was a delight to the nation, and has capacity of delivering not only in the area of job creations, but food sufficiency for the country.
“The headquarters should be situated in Lokoja due to many advantages of the geographical coordinate of Kogi State Capital to the nation.
“Lokoja, the Kogi State Capital bordered about 10 different States linking northern part to Southern part of Nigeria.”
Aside this, he said Kogi State has proved herself to be a major contributor to rice productions in the country, stressing that the state has huge comparatives advantage in the crop.
He said the large volume of confluence of river Niger and Benue has boosted production of rice in Lokoja, as well as its tributaries across the state.
The Kogi West senator likewise commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s governmental policy for the closure of Nigerian Borders, which he expressed had saved Nigeria from wastage and Nigerians foreign earners.
